We construct modern concrete staircases and specialise in the design & building of Straight staircases, Spiral stairs, Floating stairs, U-shape & L-shape staircases. Our reinforced concrete staircases are built and poured on-site during the slab construction process to ensure a seamless concrete structure. In-Situ Staircases can be tailor-made to the client’s specific needs and requirements.
Extreme Structures is an experienced construction company that can supply custom in-situ concrete staircases for the residential and commercial market in Pretoria & Johannesburg. The high-quality stairs we build can be used in commercial buildings, multi-level homes, patios, and landscaping.
Advantages of an in-situ concrete staircase.
In situ concrete staircases are durable and can be custom-made to the client’s requirement. Different staircases we build include straight, spiral, floating, u-shape & l-shape staircases.
Straight staircases are the most common style staircase used. No extra support is needed because of the straight-line design and the stairs only needs to be fixed at the top and bottom. The straight staircase design works well with tall, high-ceiling rooms and is generally used in commercial buildings. The one drawback straight stairs have is that it takes up a lot of space and can be a big influence on the overall design. The straight staircases we construct are reinforced, in situ concrete stairs with 17 to 18 rises per level.
U-shaped stairs have a 180-degree turn in the middle and generally consist of two flights of stairs that go in the opposite directions. The U-shape design works well in corners taking up less space than straight stairs and can be seen in residential properties right through to commercial buildings. Drawbacks of U-shape staircases are that it requires more construction to build and is also difficult to move furniture up and down the stairs because of the 180-degree turn in the walk line. The U-shape staircases we construct are reinforced, in situ concrete stairs with 17 to 18 rises per level including the switchback landing section in the middle of the staircase.
L-shaped stairs are also a very popular type of staircase and are in essence a straight staircase with a 90 degrees bend in some portion of the stair. The L-shape stair design takes up less space and is visually more interesting. They are however a bit more complex to construct and tend to be more expensive than straight staircases. The L-shape staircases we construct are reinforced, in situ concrete stairs with 17 to 18 rises per level including the middle landing section of the staircase.
Spiral stairs are used as a focal point to add elegance to any house or business. It is usually located close to the entrance of the property. The spiral stair design is commonly used in traditional architecture but it can also be adapted to work with contemporary designs. Following a spiral flow upward, the steps are tapered with a graceful curve which helps to create an architectural focal point. The spiral staircase is by far the most difficult to build and for that reason one of the more expensive. Our spiral staircases are constructed using off-formwork and reinforced steel. The in situ spiral stairs has 17 to 18 rises per level.
Floating stairs are the modern take on straight stairs or a combination of straight, L & U type staircases without any risers for support. It is a very contemporary look and is usually constructed without any handrails to create a true floating feeling. Various types of materials & structural engineering techniques are combined into one to form the floating stairs. The floating stairways are also known as cantilever stairs or suspended staircases.
